Allegheny County, PA
South Park" Recreational Area

SITE IMPROVMENTS
The following information is site improvements that are planned in time. It must be noted that these improvements may take longer than expected unless revenue comes from unexpected but most welcome sources to complete them.
Our Flag should always be respected and as Americans it is our duty to pass this onto subsequent generations.

MOSIAC TILE WALL MURAL
This is the main improvement on our list. This mural will be placed on each side of the American Flagpole. One side will be dedicated to the men and women who have served in the armed forces throughout our history and the other side will be dedicated to America's Citizens as they too have made our nation what she is today. Students and staff members from Allegheny County Community College will complete the design for these areas. Many of them may very well be veterans themselves and those that are not will be citizens. This project's cost will be in the $10,000.00 range. This will allow for a highly detailed and long lasting remembrance to our flag. It will also provide a patriotic background for any ceremony or simply for citizens to come sit and reflect.

CULVERT PIPES INSTALLED FOR ASH RECEPTICLES
This project will not cost as much as it is anticipated that much of the work can be accomplished by Allegheny County Public Works. This project will consist of culvert pipes of a yet undecided with or length to be installed below ground so that the ashes of those flags retired may be respected to the highest degree possible. There will be eight of these installed at the site.
One in front of or beside each flagpole dedicated to each branch of the armed forces including The US Merchant Marines for their World War II service. The other two sections will be installed on each side of the stage area. This way any group, organization or individual who conducts a ceremony at the site can request those ashes when cool may be placed in the area of their choice. Upon these sections will be an approximately three-foot brick pedestal. Further development of this area will be explained in the next section.

FIBERGLASS STATUARY INSTALLED OVER ASH RECEPTICLES
This project consists of installing eight fiberglass statues over each of the ash receptacles. Six of these will be placed on the pedestals representing the armed forces. These statues will be representative of both genders and all races including our Native Americans. The other two statues will consist of Revolutionary War Soldiers at attention with muskets to stand guard and constant vigil over the site. The individual built our Nation and we should remember their sacrifices. The exact planning of each statue is as yet undecided but if an individual or organization is willing to sponsor one then they will have the privilege of selecting the gender or race as long as all races can be represented. The cost of each of these statues will be in the $1500.00 range.

BRONZE SERVICE MEDALLIONS ON PEDASTALS
This project will consist of a bronze medallion representing each branch of the armed forces to be placed on the pedestal dedicated to the respective branch of service. The cost of a complete set is in the $2000.00 range. The medallions may also be in color.

BRONZE EVERDUR AND RELIEFS ON RETIREMENT AREA
This project is to have bronze relief's placed on each of the side of the flag retirement area. The relief's planned are to have hands holding a folded American Flag placed on the side facing the American Flagpole. The other reliefs are those dedicated to Police - Fire - EMS - Military and Citizens. The cost of these is also in the $1000.00 range each. The exact placement of the others is as yet undetermined.

CONSTRUCTION OF A FLAG DROP OFF AREA
This project will consist of an area near the site to construct a receptacle for the general public to drop off worn or no longer serviceable American Flags. This receptacle will be periodically checked and those flags contained in it will be stored in the building behind the stage to be retired in the next planned ceremony. If no ceremony is planned then a private one will be conducted to retire them with both respect and dignity.

"BUY A BRICK" PROGRAM FOR WALKWAY
This project is still in its infancy but thought is being given to allowing the public to purchase bricks in memory of a living or deceased veteran. There will also be bricks that may be purchased by the public in memory of citizens or immigrants who have become American Citizens. The cost is as yet undetermined due to insufficient data and exact location of the walkway itself.

These are the planned improvements to this site. We are cautious as to not do to many as to detract from its primary significance, OUR FLAG and proper respect for her. We have thought these improvements would be a worthy tribute to her and representative of a grateful nation. Further information can be obtained by contacting:

Email is preferred for inquiries to sponsor any of these projects as permission and approval must come from Allegheny County itself. Any email can then be forwarded to the appropriate official for further action.
